This is a wonderful art/photography/life project by Haley Morris-Cafiero. She is a photographer who lives in Memphis Tennessee. She is an Assistant Professor and Head of Photography at the Memphis College of Art. She is currently working on securing exhibitions for the “Wait Watchers” series and publishing a book of the photographs.
I know these sideways looks and the little titters of humour. Thankfully I’ve always been comfortable being me and have a strong and loving husband who also gets stares (I like to think because he’s just gorgeous 🙂 ) so we don’t get upset about it really…maybe we should.
I think being a very tall teenager…I was almost my full height of 5’11 (and a half) by fourteen so I’d already realised that boys my age were mostly a foot shorter than me. I probably looked down on them as much as they sniggered at me…I didn’t notice actually. i wasn’t really interested til I met Clive at age 15. we were both tall and skinny back then…I remember loving looking up at him and walking along arm in arm…him being 6’4.
It hit hard when he ended up in the chair…for many more serious reasons but the one that applies here is that I now don’t have my tall man to make feel ‘normal height anymore but he makes up for that loss in height with his enormous character and his even bigger sense of humour.
I think people who judge others on their size, shape, colour, looks, sexuality, disability, religion or ‘beauty’ are sad sad people indeed with narrow minds and small hearts to match.
Well done to this woman for exposing it so beautifully…I look forward to the full art display.
EDIT: I just found her website…more great pics here: http://haleymorriscafiero.com/
